Iago Dorte Souza: cores e compaixão a serviço da Arte

Hoje conversamos com Iago Dorte Souza.
Suas imagens trabalham o contraste do preto com cores brilhantes. As referências à cultura japonesa também contrapõem o tradicional e a vanguarda. Iago nos traz uma visão conciliadora. Num momento em que há tanta divisão e agressividade, ele constrói pontes entre conceitos, entre diferenças. Valorizando e destacando o que há de bom no que não conhecemos, ele mostra um caminho em que a compreensão vence o preconceito, onde o amor prevalece sobre o ódio.
Nesta entrevista, Iago nos fala sobre o caminho percorrido na construção de seu estilo inconfundível, sua visão inclusiva, seus métodos e referências.
Como foi o início de sua carreira?
Foi quando parei de ser quem os outros queriam que eu fosse, e aceitei que eu sou artista plástico. Todos empregos por que passei eram voltados mais para o design gráfico, e sempre que encontrava tempo eu estava na arte tradicional, pintando e desenhando. Eu sentia que o emprego formal me roubava o tempo de produzir de verdade. Sempre amei a Arte e como todo artista, queria criar e viver das minhas criações e expressões, e não vender meu tempo apenas por dinheiro e ilusão.
De um modo geral, como é a sua Arte?
Pinturas em papel, tecido e vários outros suportes.
Como desenvolveu seu estilo?
Foi tudo muito natural, confesso que sempre busquei encontrar um estilo para chamar de meu, que me marcasse, mas sempre que me forçava a criar algo e seguir tais estilos, estes não me agradavam, até que passei a pintar retratos estilizados e naturalmente começou a nascer e evoluir meu estilo.
Nós sabemos que um dos objetivos da Arte é refletir o contexto social de sua época. Como ela se caracteriza nos tempos atuais e o que estaria refletindo sobre o mundo em que vivemos?
Sempre desejei a liberdade, igualdade e procuro valorizar os verdadeiros sonhos e dons únicos que cada um tem para oferecer. Ou seja, gosto de ver as pessoas reconhecendo, respeitando as escolhas e identidade dos outros e principalmente gosto de vê-las realizando seus sonhos em harmonia com os demais.
Como vemos na história da Arte, ela é usada para expressar as dores e o ódio, uma arte agressiva que tenta chocar com essa energia densa para tentar conquistar algo bom, mas eu quero seguir pelo outro lado. Em vez de lutar contra a guerra levantando a bandeira do ódio, quero alcançar o amor e a igualdade espalhando mais amor e reconhecimento.
Tendo uma ligação com o Japão, acabo trazendo essa beleza do Oriente, sua cultura e povo para encantar e quebrar todo tipo de preconceito. Não batendo de frente contra os racistas, xenofóbicos e preconceituosos, mas sim apresentando o lado belo e valioso desse povo e sua cultura para transmutar a negatividade daqueles que a cultivaram.
Você acha que os artistas participam mais das questões sociais?
Vejo sim muitos artistas trazendo em suas artes questões sociais, mas como analisei anteriormente, eles acabam sendo agressivos. Ao meu ver, atacar com agressividade a raiva do outro, acaba gerando mais ódio.
Em vez de levantar muros e apontar armas, por que não entender a dor do outro e mostrar o lado belo que o outro não conhece?
Claro que as crenças de cada indivíduo são limitantes, fazendo com que não enxerguem e não queiram enxergar a visão do seu oposto, mas esse é o desafio da Arte: mostrar o lado bom que o outro não enxerga, focar nas soluções e não plantar mais aversão.
Imagine como seria lindo um mundo em que todos reconheçam tudo que já conquistamos, tudo que já criamos e abracem a beleza das diferenças sem querer rotular tudo para agradar seu ego.
Como funciona o seu processo criativo?
Surge de alguma ideia, ou vontade de expressar algo que acho belo, então começo a buscar referências fotográficas, crio esboços dessas referências, reduzindo toda informação da foto em traços e cores limpas dentro do meu estilo, até alcançar a harmonia perfeita que me agrada. Então risco a arte no suporte e começo a pintar com tinta acrílica e nanquim.
Em sua Arte você usa poucas cores. Pretende continuar com essas cores, ou vai abrir o leque?
Não posso responder com certeza, pois apenas deixo fluir naturalmente meu processo e evolução. O que tenho notado é que tudo começou bem simples, eram retratos apenas com preto e vermelho e o branco do suporte.
Ao encontrar uma foto em que a modelo usava uma boina amarela, acabei adotando a cor amarela nas pinturas também, e atualmente o azul começou timidamente em detalhes e agora já aparece com mais frequência.
Mas o que posso afirmar, é que as cores vermelha, amarela, preto e branco já marcaram meu estilo atual e não me vejo saindo dessa fase por um bom tempo.
Você tem alguma influência japonesa em sua Arte?
Sim, sempre amei a cultura japonesa. Cresci com amigos de ascendência japonesa, frequentando a casa deles, assistindo a programas japoneses, comendo comida japonesa e indo a seus eventos. Tudo isso moldou quem eu sou, e inevitavelmente é tudo expressado na minha arte.
O que é preciso para compor uma grande obra?
Entrega. A entrega do artista, dos seus dons, tempo, estilo, identidade para criar sem limites. Claro que às vezes haverá um tema e uma vontade como limite, mas no ato da criação, o artista deve ser livre para apenas criar, expressar e se entregar à magia de estar presente no fluxo criativo.
Qual obra sua você destacaria como um marco na sua vida artística?
O primeiro retrato que pintei utilizando a cor amarela. Foi ele que abriu as portas para as cores que adotei como meu estilo. É uma obra composta de 4 sequências de pintura da mesmo modelo.
Quais são suas referências?
Todo artista acaba tendo referências de suas experiências de vida, muitas vezes inconscientes, expressas na Arte. Claro que existem aquelas referências que podemos dizer com certeza. No meu caso, vemos claramente a referência à Arte japonesa. Quanto a artistas, eu amo os trabalhos de Andy Warhol e Moebius.
Qual mensagem você deixa para um aspirante?
Acreditar em si, persistência, criar sua identidade e encontrar seu estilo.

Copie as obras dos artistas que admira, e possivelmente irá se frustrar por não conseguir replicar com precisão. Mas essa é a magia, pois a cada cópia, sempre irá trazer seu olhar, sua mão, seu eu, nesses traços. Copie, crie e expresse livremente sem parar, produza muito, que, aquilo que persistir será seu eu querendo aparecer e ser notado, até que ele tome conta dos seus trabalhos e finalmente terá seu estilo para chamar de seu.

Iago Dorte Souza: colors and compassion at the service of Art
UP Time Art Gallery's job is to inspire and fascinate through Art. Our artists create works that portray our emotions, our causes, our lives. The public always wants to know who is behind the work. Who is the artist? What does he think? What life story led to the work?
Today we talk to IagoDS.
His images bring the contrast of black with bright colors. References to Japanese culture also contrast tradition and avant-garde. IagoDS brings us a conciliatory view. At a time when there is so much division and aggressiveness, he builds bridges between concepts, between differences. Valuing and highlighting the good in what we do not know, he shows a path in which understanding overcomes prejudice, where love prevails over hatred.
In this interview, IagoDS tells us about the path taken in the construction of his unmistakable style, his inclusive vision, his methods and references.
How was the beginning of your career?
That was when I stopped being who the others wanted me to be, and accepted that I am an artist. All jobs I went through were geared towards graphic design, and whenever I found time I was back to traditional art, painting and drawing. I felt that formal employment robbed me of the time to actually produce. I have always loved art and like every artist, I wanted to create and live from my creations and expressions, and not sell my time just for money and illusion.
In general, how is your Art?
Paintings on paper, fabric and various other supports.
How did you develop your style?
It was all very natural, I confess that I always tried to find a style to call my own, that marked me, but whenever I forced myself to create something and follow such styles, these did not please me, until I started to paint stylized portraits and naturally my style started to appear and evolve.
We know that one of the aims of Art is to reflect the social context of the time. How is it characterized today and what would it be reflecting on the world in which we live?
I have always wanted freedom, equality and I try to value the true dreams and unique gifts that each one has to offer. In other words, I like to see people recognizing, respecting the choices and identities of others and I especially like to see them realizing their dreams in harmony with others.
As we see in the history of Art, it is used to express pain and hatred, an aggressive art that tries to shock with this dense energy to try to achieve something good, but I want to go the other way. Instead of fighting the war by raising the flag of hatred, I want to achieve love and equality by spreading more love and recognition.
Having a connection with Japan, I end up bringing this beauty from the East, its culture and people to enchant and break all kinds of prejudice. Not clashing head-on against racist, xenophobic and prejudiced people, but presenting the beautiful and valuable side of this people and their culture to transmute the negativity of those who cultivated it.
Do you think that artists participate more in social issues?
I do see many artists bringing social issues into their arts, but as I analyzed earlier, they end up being aggressive. In my view, aggressively attacking the other's anger ends up generating more hatred.
Instead of building walls and pointing weapons, why not understand the pain of the other and show the beautiful side that the other does not know?
Of course, the beliefs of each individual are limiting, making them not see and do not want to see the opposite view, but this is the challenge of Art: showing the good side that the other does not see, focusing on solutions and not planting more aversion.
Imagine how beautiful it would be a world in which everyone recognizes everything that we have already achieved, everything that we have already created and embrace the beauty of differences without wanting to label everything to please his ego.
How does your creative process work?
It arises from some idea, or desire to express something that I think is beautiful, so I start looking for photographic references, I create sketches of these references, reducing all the photo information in clean lines and colors within my style, until reaching the perfect harmony that I like. So I scratch the art on the support and start painting with acrylic and ink.
In your Art you use few colors. Do you intend to continue just with these colors?
I can't answer for sure, as I just let my process and evolution flow naturally. What I have noticed is that everything started very simple, portraits with only black and red and the white of the support.
When I found a photo in which the model wore a yellow beret, I ended up adopting the yellow color in the paintings too, and now the blue started timidly in details and now it appears more often.
But what I can say is that the colors red, yellow, black and white have already marked my current style and I don't see myself leaving this phase for a long time.
Do you have any Japanese influence on your art?
Yes, I have always loved Japanese culture. I grew up with friends of Japanese descent, attending their home, watching Japanese programs, eating Japanese food and attending their events. All of this has shaped who I am, and inevitably it is all expressed in my art.
What does it take to compose a great work?
Surrender. The surrender of the artist, his gift, time, style, identity to create without limits. Of course, sometimes there will be a theme and a will as a limit, but in the act of creation, the artist must be free to just create, express and surrender to the magic of being present in the creative flow.
Which of your works would you highlight as a milestone in your artistic life?
The first portrait I painted using the color yellow. It was the one who opened the door to the colors I adopted as my style. It is a work composed of 4 sequences of paintings of the same model.
What are your references?
Every artist ends up having references to his life experiences, often unconscious, expressed in Art. Of course, there are those references that we can say for sure. In my case, we clearly see the reference to Japanese art. As for artists, I love the works of Andy Warhol and Moebius.
What's your message for those just starting out?
Believe in you! Persist! Create your identity and find your style.
It isn’t really an easy path, nor a short one. It is a winding trail of experiences and achievements. Copy the works of the artists you admire. Possibly you will be frustrated by not being able to replicate accurately. But this is the magic, because each copy will always bring more of your look, your hand, your self, in these features. Copy, create and express freely without stopping, produce a lot. What persists will be you, wanting to appear and be noticed. Until this revealed “you” takes care of your work and then, finally, you will have a style to call your own.
